Health and Safety

Health and Safety Policy

In line with the Health and Safety at Work Act, a Health and Safety Policy should contain:

  • A statement of intent, signed by the senior person in the organisation with responsibility for health and safety
  • Roles and responsibilities specific to the organisation
  • Arrangements for the management of health and safety in the company

AOSS can work with you to prepare a policy according to your requirements or review and update your existing policy to align with current legislation.

Risk assessments

Health and safety legislation demands that employers make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the following:

  • Health and safety risks employees are exposed to whilst at work
  • Risks to the health and safety of persons not in their employment
  • All assessments must be communicated to relevant persons and documented if there are five or more employees in the company.

AOSS can work with you to conduct all necessary assessments for:

    • General workplace hazards and hazardous activities

    • DSE
    • Lone and home-working

    • Fire
    • Work equipment

Method statements and safe working procedures can supplement these.

Experienced consultants will ensure that assessments and Safe System of Work are specific to your needs and in line with current legislation and good practice.

    We can also assist with:

    • Hazard identification – HAZID
    • Risk assessment registers
    • Personal risk assessments for employees
    • Prioritised action plans for outstanding control measures

    Workplace Health and Safety Inspections

    • Workplace inspections should be conducted regularly by competent persons to ensure compliance with company standards and procedures and to determine the degree of implementation of control measures.

AOSS can conduct workplace health and safety inspections in workplaces and on client work sites, as follows:

      • Periodic management review meetings to discuss inspection findings and reports
      • Ongoing advice and guidance about the sites visited
      • Inspection checklists and reports can be concise or detailed, depending on

    Emergency Response

    • The actions taken in the initial minutes of an emergency are critical to warn employees and potentially save lives.

We can help you prepare emergency procedures for potential hazards and threat scenarios, including:

    Behavioural Safety

Traditional safety management focuses on a Safe Workplace, Safe People, and Safe Equipment. However, even when companies have processes to deliver these systems, accidents still happen; the question is why?

AOSS’ behavioural-based programs are designed to answer these questions and improve safety performance. The programs we devise are employee-led, supported by management, and explicitly designed to the aspirations and needs of your company.

Programs can be customised based on requirements and may include:

    • A survey of the current safety climate
    • Audit of the health and safety management system
    • Review of incident and accident data, including near misses
    • Identification of at-risk behaviours
    • Implementation of unsafe condition reporting
    • Workplace observations
